How to Clean Shower Door Glass and Keep It Clear

A frameless glass shower is a beautiful thing when it is clean and a sad thing when it is not. The good news is that keeping it clear is more about routine than effort. Two minutes a day beats an hour of scrubbing every few months, and it protects your investment from permanent damage.

The Daily Habit That Does 90% of the Work

Keep a small squeegee inside the shower and use it after every use. Twenty seconds top to bottom pulls the water off before mineral deposits can dry on the glass. This is the single biggest factor in whether shower glass looks new after five years or looks etched. Add a small microfiber cloth for the corners and hardware.

Weekly Cleaning

Once a week, spray the glass with a non-abrasive bathroom cleaner or a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and water. Let it sit for a few minutes so it can break down soap film, then wipe with a soft cloth and rinse. Dry with the squeegee.

What not to use: steel wool, magic-eraser sponges on coated glass, or ammonia mixed with anything else. Steel wool leaves microscratches that trap future soap scum, and etched glass cannot be un-etched.

When the Glass Is Already Etched

If years of hard water have left permanent cloudy patches, no cleaner will bring the glass back — the minerals have chemically bonded with the surface.
